He was the other half of one of the 80s pop sensations, Tears for Fears. He formed the band with his schoolmate, Roland Orzabal. They used to be in a ska-influenced band called "Graduate". They had released their debut single called "Mad World", which went Top 3 in the UK charts. Until 1989, they enjoyed six more Top 10 hits, including a smash-hit, "Evrybody Wants To Rule The World", which topped the US charts and a number two hit in 1985 in the UK charts. As they enjoyed their success in the 80s, the 90s had a change of plan. Curt Smith departed in 1991 and Tears for Fears became a one-man act. However, Roland continued producing materials alone with the band and kept the name Tears for Fears. Curt Smith released his solo album in 1993 called "Soul On Board". Curt Smith then formed a band called "Mayfield" in the USA.
